Here are the nominees and categories for the Oscars Academy Award 2010. We have also included our certified guesses of which movies that will win one or several Oscars this year.

82nd-Annual-Oscars-Poster

Best Visual Effects

Nominees:

  • Avatar
  • District 9
  • Star Trek

And the winner is:

Star Trek! Avatar can’t win everything, the Academy has to give the Trekkies a nod at least or risk photon torpedos being fired at them from all directions!

Best Animated Feature

Nominees:

  • Coraline
  • Fantastic Mr. Fox
  • The Princess and the Frog
  • The Secret of Kells
  • Up

And the winner is:

UP! This film had action, comedy and was one of the favorites last year making us all want to go to Paradise Falls!

Best Score

Nominees:

  • Avatar, James Horner
  • Fantastic Mr. Fox, Alexandre Desplat
  • The Hurt Locker, Marco Beltrami and Buck Sanders
  • Sherlock Holmes, Hans Zimmer;
  • Up, Michael Giacchino.

And the winner is:

Up, Micheal Giacchino- The score of the melody added drama to this animated picture and underscored the emotion on the screen perfectly, complimenting everything along the way.

Best Screen Play

Nominees:

  • Mark Boal, The Hurt Locker
  • Quentin Tarantino, Inglourious Basterds
  • Alessandro Camon and Oren Moverman, The Messenger
  • Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, A Serious Man
  • Bob Peterson, Pete Docter, Tom McCarthy, Up

And the winner is:

Mark Boal, The Hurt Locker- Hollywood loves a good war movie, but one with moral overtones? Yeah, they have a hard time passing those up. It’s about as close to morality as they allow themselves to come.

Best Supporting Actress

Nominees:

  • Penelope Cruz, Nine
  • Vera Farmiga, Up in the Air
  • Maggie Gyllenhaal, Crazy Heart
  • Anna Kendrick, Up in the Air
  • Mo’Nique, Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire

And the winner is:

Maggie Gyllenhaal, Crazy Heart- Maggie was more of less the darkhorse in the race, but her portrayal of the reporter Jean Craddock in Crazy Heart will most likely not go unnoticed.

Best Supporting Actor

Nominees:

  • Matt Damon, Invictus
  • Woody Harrelson, The Messenger
  • Christopher Plummer, The Last Station
  • Stanley Tucci, The Lovely Bones
  • Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds

And the winner is:

Matt Damon, Invictus- Hollywood loves Matt Damon, and this touching story directed by another Hollywood favorite, Clint Eastwood, is sure to get more than a few nods… try a couple of Oscars.

Best Actress

Nominees:

  • Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side
  • Helen Mirren, The Last Station
  • Carey Mulligan, An Education
  • Gabourey Sidibe, Precious: Based on the Novel `Push’ by Sapphire
  • Meryl Streep, Julie & Julia.

And the winner is:

Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side- Bullock’s performance in this picture has been touted as one of her best. The Academy thought so as the job she did floated and otherwise floppish film into a couple of categories. Most think it was Bullock’s talent alone that did it.

Best Actor are

Nominees:

  • Jeff Bridges,Crazy Heart
  • George Clooney, Up in the Air
  • Colin Firth, A Single Man
  • Morgan Freeman, Invictus
  • Jeremy Renner, The Hurt Locker.

And the winner is:

Nearly too close to call.Wait a second, let’s reason this out. Both Freeman and Bridges put in incredible performances. Both stories were compelling…. hmmm. convention says to go with Morgan Freeman though. When was I ever conventional!? If Bridges doesn’t win, we’ll send him our own TT10 Oscar… we’ll call it the Sven Award for Movie Excellence… or the SAME.

Best Motion Picture

Nominees:

  • Avatar
  • The Blind Side
  • District 9
  • An Education
  • The Hurt Locker
  • Inglourious Basterds
  • Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire
  • A Serious Man
  • Up
  • Up in the Air

And the winner is:

Avatar-Why? Because it’s Hollywood baby! And it’s all about what’s latest and greatest. Avatar is still in the theaters now actually. With all the hype and promo videos and the like going around, what’s better than still selling tickets? So why are we saying Avatar is going to win Best Picture? Because we really, really like it.

Best Documentary

Nominees:

  • Burma VJ
  • The Cove
  • Food, Inc.
  • The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers,
  • Which Way Home.

And the Oscar goes to:

The Cove- This gripping documentary on the plight of the dolphin raised awareness and beckoned everyone who has seen this film to want to reach out and help. Well done!

I Want Obama To See "Capitalism: A Love Story" PDF Print E-mail

caplovestory-approved_400

Michal Moor's nonfiction tragicomedy, Capitalism: A love story,of greed is the grandest statement of his belief that big business is smashing the hard-working little guy while government cooks up the massacre. In the movie, not only do you see people evicted from their homes, corporations that take life insurance policies out on their employees thus benefiting from their deaths, but we also see civil disobedience: workers refusing to leave a factory without the pay owed to them. In an interview Moore said that his movies are acts of patriotism and hope and that he wants Obama to see his film maybe then a solution could be found! The big question remains will “Capitalism: A love story” result in a revolt against the system and the government? Or it is going to be just another day at the movies? Michael Moore's movies had no radical impact in the past;cross your fingers so it wont be just another doomed campaign!
